There is a 3man tourney at all PBC fields (Paintball Central) on March 3rd. There is a CFOA 5 man on March 24 & 25 and there is XBALL the 2nd weekend of April in Greenville (home of Dark Carnival)

paintball charleston offers several scenarios year round but we rarely do tournaments because IMO they are very hard to set up organize and ensure that people would come ( speedball or pump)

this thread is a year and a half old. and this forum is FULL of forum nazis because the last thing we want is another PbN full of immature kids that post randomly. we have sour attitudes because we're forum nazis.

Uhh, it's completely irrelevant now so why bother. It makes no sense to bump threads like this when there is nothing to talk about here. I imagine that the troll who resurrected this would start their own thread if they actually had anything productive to say.

The two factors I just mentioned, senseless posting and trolls, lead directly to the "sour" attitudes you pointed out.

Now I should apologize for posting in this thread and continuing this mess.

Or you could just give trophies and put the money toward the charity. That way, when it's all done, you could make like fifty whole dollars!

I would be playing recball with Joey.

Puh-lease y'all.Rec-speedball is fun. It's really a good opportunity to practice things like shooting with your off- hand without serving tea and moving without shooting up all your paint and going straight to your deadbox when you are shot out.Relax and play nice...

i was looking at the nation and i thought this was an interesting idea. what if we did a tournament where you pay a small entry fee and instead of cash prizes, 1st-3rd place gets a trophy or medel and other participents get a shirt or something?

m0rning4est
08-18-2008, 03:12 PM
eh cant spend a trophy

colin2722
08-18-2008, 03:27 PM
well it could be cheaper and maybe get a better turnout

Paintbala4life
08-18-2008, 03:35 PM
They have done free events before..

colin2722
08-18-2008, 03:54 PM
and like skeeter said in the other thread there were many teams that backed out, or simply did not show up and it was a hassle for the staff. if there was a fee beforehand for teams to pay, then it would be a more binding situation.

Yes, but a small entry fee isn't the same idea as the deposit that you get back at the end of the event if you show up, and a trophy isn't a huge incentive for a team to show up to a tournament.

The deposit idea sounds the best, to me at least.

Since I've been around (about 7-8 years) there has never been a good turn out for tournaments at PBC that PBC has put on. The only ones that I recall that had a good turnout, was the 3 man pump tournament and the Top Gun tourny that I helped put on. Reasoning behind this is that there isn't enough interest in the speedball seen down here to even try to hold a tournament.

Take your average speedball day where we have say 20-30 people and we will use 30 people to play a tournament, here would be the results:

5 man: 6 teams
3 man: 10 teams
Top Gun (1vs1): 20-30 people

And since about 10 out of the 30 people on the average sunday are what all you "pro rec ballers" consider "newbs" these kids won't pay the $200 entry fee or whatever it would be just for the simple fact that they are either just going to pay the $10 to play rec ball just to shoot someone, or they will go out and play the tournament and get their sh!t pushed back in and never want to spend the time or money to step back on a speedball field.

And not to mention the fact that out of the 20-30 people who "say" they will play, only about 10-15 will actually register and play.

Deposits won't work, so don't bother trying to use that because ya the field will make money off the people not playing but the lack of teams will still be the problem.

You guys should really just enjoy having the speedball fields up and stop trying to get all this stuff to happen right now. When the time comes and Geoff, Brain and/or Skeeter would like to hold a tournament that they think would be beneficial to the field then it will happen.

Until then just stop making post about it all and just come out and enjoy playing.

ps: if you really want to play in a tournament series, check out www.thecfoa.com they have a great beginner league.

There are a few factors here... If we plan a "full on" tourney, a few things have to be figured out:

1. $$. How much should entry fee be? If you have a cheap tourney, we can't afford refs, prizes our trophies, so not many teams would show up. Most teams want a serious prize package. If we make it expensive, then we can afford refs, trophies and prizes, but not many teams would show up because of the price of entry.

2. We always hear LOTS of "chatter" on the forums, but when it comes time to register, everyone gets strangely quiet... Hmmmmmm...

3. If we do a "free" tournament, with only a deposit required to hold your team spot, then we will usually get some interest, but then I can't staff the field for rec ball, since most of the refs want to be part of the tourney.

We will host some sort of events in the future. The question is when (a pump tourney this October???) and what type. If the pump tourney runs smoothly and the regular operation does not suffer, then we will run more and larger events. The key factor here is "IF"... If the rec ball operation suffers, then we won't be holding many events at all. We are not trying to turn a profit on speedball, AT ALL! Trust me. We have so much time and $$ invested in the speedball fields that we will NEVER see a penny of profit from that side of the business. What everyone needs to realize is that the rec ball operation allows us to open (and keep open?) the speedball field. For all of the refs that like to play speedball... You guys need to understand that speedball won't be around very long if you keep avoiding your job to play speedball. So far, this has been an issue, but we have worked around it. If it continues to be an issue, and we can't work around it, then we will shut down the speedball side. When we are short on rec ball refs and you insist on playing speedball, just realize that it might be your last chance to play speedball here. If you do ref when needed, you can be assured that there will be plenty of speedball days in the future, at PBC. As an FYI to everyone, we were dangerously close to shutting down speedball this past Sunday.
