View Full Version : Pet peaves!

OK, I thought I would start up a thread for everyone to vent about their pet peaves. Remember, keep it clean, and no personal attacks.
One of my growing pet peaves on this site is related to either a lack of education, or a lack of caring how uneducated people look. I have seen a growing number of difficult to read posts because people can't write in English. In the past we had one or two people, and some people usually took their time to translate for those of us who speak English.
BTW, when writing about money a monetary figure is written as $1 not 1$. I don't know if they teach that in South Carolina. If not I thought I would share it with everyone.

I dont know about you, but i hate it when noobs blindfire all over the place. It really bugs me and i think i can speak for everyone when i say, IF YOUR TOO SCARED TO LOOK, DONT PLAY!
Also, when older guys talk like they are the best paintballers in the world. Thats just something that i cant stand, but its not just the older guys all of the time.

Ya i agree like when i was playing today towards the
end of the round the kid next to me called himself out
because there was a guy like 10 feet away behind a
triangle. That really made me angry!!!!:angry6wn:
I really hate when like 10 noobs will sit behind
a bunker and not do anything, not even look out
to see where the other team is, which then induces blind fire

dang eric, you must hate alot of things. don't you also hate when you get bb'd in the back of the head buy some smart-alec kid.:laugh8kb: we both know who i'm talking about. and as for the things we hate, it's paintball it happens, sometimes you just have to deal with it. and mikesac, why don't you just do a better job wiping the hit off(after the game:wink0st: ) then the refs wouldn't call you out for them.

Ya that is a little extreme, I think that if you have been playing for at least
5 years then you're not a noob, I mean 10 years is a long time, and if you play like almost every weekend.....

Someone had to put requirements on it. How often do we hear someone calling someone else a noob who doesn't even have a clue what Camille is? The only reason some people don't like the requirements I posted is because now they may now be the noobs.....lol Labels hurt don't they?
bunkermonkey376
05-28-2007, 08:08 PM
Ya i do understand that someone had to put requirements on it and thanks for establishing those grounds, but 10 years is quite a long time to be considered a noob. I mean what if someone ihas been playing for like 4 years and already plays pretty well?

20+ (amature)hey just because we have not been playing for over 10 years or whatever, does not mean that we are noobs, just like me, im not bragging, but i have had my share of comments on how well i have played i the past and i only have played for 4 years, i think i am speaking for all of us younger people that some of us may not be noobs just because we have not been playing for 10 years or more, and yes i am one of those people who hates when you have someone who has just started out and calls someone that is really good a noob and the same way for when a very good player calls a person who has not been playing for as long as they have a noob, they might actually be pretty good.ok now im done

It looks like I have struck a nerve as intended. In the beginning of this thread all everyone was talking about was "noobs" without any qualification of what a "noob" was. Now everyone seems to be upset that they are being grouped in with those they were degrading earlier.
Second, at what point did I ever say a "noob" wasn't any good. The qualifications I posted were for playing time only. At no point did I ever say that someone who hasn't played "x" amount of years isn't good. That was something that others implied.
Lastly, I didn't bring up the topic of pros, because you can be a pro the first day you play. It is just a matter of being paid for what you do.
PBKingman
05-28-2007, 09:40 PM
no im just saying that just because some of us have not played for as long as say, you does not make us noobs, we may not be pros but that does not mean we suck,
i just dont like when people say that someone who has not played as long is a noob or sucks, expecially when you probably have not seen me or anyone play.but hey im not trying to change ur mind but im just saing what i think.

Which brings me to another of my pet peaves. People not taking responsibility for their actions or statements. First off, this isn't directed at you PBKingman, but rather at our society as a whole.
I went to a class in the Navy years ago and one of the things we discussed were "I statements." These are statements intended to reflect on the first person. I was amazed at how many times people talk in third person about themselves. Think about it. How often do you hear yourself or someone else say, "When you "insert verb" it can be "insert result". i.e. You know, when you put in your time on the practice field you get better. Meaning, when I put in my time on the practice field I get better. This isn't the best example I could come up with, but it was the first one that came to my mind.
If you want to see what I am talking about, just turn on any news or sports channel and watch it for five minutes. You (meaning you) may be surprised.

Why can't they be professionals if they are noobs? Noobs are just someone that hasn't played for 10 years. A professional is only someone who is paid to do a specific job. I know of plenty of professionals in other fields that are professionals their first day on the job. A garbage collector is paid the first time they are on the job and they are professional garbage collectors. A librarian is paid the first day she organizes books and is paid. What is the difference?

What I hate is: People who don’t take the time to read and understand what others post here!!!
Jami, I miss ya, man.
What Deep posted had absolutely nothing to do with playing time on the field. It was a post to make you understand that labeling people is the equivalent of judging people. Think about that for a second. It is no fun to have the label of a “noob”, which means that someone has judged you, probably unfairly. Hurts, right? Even if the assessments are correct, what gives that person the right to judge you anyway?
For everyone writing about “noobs this, noobs that…”, you are both labeling AND judging others. What gives you the right to judge other people, even if your assessments are correct? You don’t want to be judged by others that have no authority over you, right? Show the same respect to others.
Just take a few minutes to think about what you write, before you post it. Proof it, correct it if needed, then hit the submit button.
Deep. I apologize that our players didn’t quite get the lesson you were trying to teach. It was a noble try, but apparently a little beyond some of them. The lesson is better learned when it is “discovered” independently, and not spoon fed to the students.
PS: I will be amateur next year! Woot!

Skeeter you novice....I was wondering when you were going to speak up. I guess I was a bit too subtle for the younger generation. Then again, I am the kind of person that has always been able to argue both sides of a topic, no matter how mundane.
BTW, I just found out my radar class is scheduled for September or October, so my October trip will be delayed. I will let you guys know when I am going to be in town.
