You'll learn. Just come out there once they've gotten it all set up and I'm sure that some of the guys will work with you and show you the ropes. Lot more fast pace than woods ball/scenario ball. I only had the option for speedball when I started playing. You may get shot to hell, but it's those shots that teach you what you did wrong, and improve your game. Don't let them scare you away from it.

Yeah. There aren't many things that recball at Paintball Charleston can teach you unfortunately. You can improve there but you need to learn on a speedball field.
The basics:
-play tight
-snapshooting
-shooting with both hands
(There are more but its late-ish and i'm getting offline. Someone else post them if you like.)
Playing tight: Much easier to do on a speed ball field using those rules. you'll learn quicker. Next time you play, try keeping your elbows and knees in, your hopper tilted towards your bunker. Basically, do anything to not allow the other team to have anything to shoot. In speedball, playing your bunker properly and keeping yourself a small target is crucial because a hit anywhere on your body and gear counts. Another bit that will help is learning how to shoot switch and becoming an effective snapshooter.
Snapshooting: In an nut shell, leaning out, shooting a shot, leaning back in. This is an art however and takes time to master or even get good at. This will be done on fields likethe castle or anything with hard cover and a straight edge(I don't suggest a tree). Give it a shot next time you play. The trick is keeping your barrel straight when you snap and not pushing too much with your shoulder so your barrel leans in and not too much with your forearm/wrists so your barrel points out.
Shooting with both hands: This is fairly straightforward. Instead of leaning out the left side of your bunker with your gun in the right hand, switch the gun to your left hand before snapping. Snapping left with your marker in the right hand makes you lean your entire body out. By switching your marker to the other hand, you can snap and lean out and expose as little of your body as possible. Try switching your hands. When you look out your bunker's left side, your left hand should be holding the grip of your marker and your right hand should be forward on your regulator/foregrip. This gets flip-flopped if you're a lefty learning to shoot right handed.

Bunkering is entirely straight forward. Run past them and shoot them from'close range'. If someone needs to be taught how to bunker then they don't belong on the field. An explanation is entirely acceptable and if they don't understand the explanation, show them what you're talking about but bunkering isn't complicated in the least.

Yeah. There aren't many things that recball at Paintball Charleston can teach you unfortunately. You can improve there but you need to learn on a speedball field.
The basics:
-play tight
-snapshooting
-shooting with both hands
-running and gunning
-breakshooting/laning
-bunkering
Running and shooting: Your upper body and your legs are considered two different parts for this. Your legs will move running you to your bunker while your top half will be shooting and rotating as you move farther away from your target(s).
HINT: When you run, you will have to lead your targets if you are running away from them or else your shots will fall short.
Breakshooting/Laning: These are both very basic concepts and are generally the same things. Breakshooting boils down to you turning off the break and shooting a lane of paint down field in between bunkers. When breakshooting, yuo will want to have identified your lane(s) before the start of the game. Off the break, you will turn and shoot a rope of paint down through the first gap, or lane, in the bunkers down field. If there are multiple lanes, you will want to shoot the one closest to the inside of the field first and then snap your marker to post up on the next lane. Once the player is in his/her bunker across field, post up on the outside of their bunker for about ten shots to see if you can catch them if/when they overslide their bunker. There are several combinations that break shooting falls into. You can delay or stay off the break and shoot a single lane for a split second before filling out to your primary bunker. You can stay home and keep dropping paint or you can run and gun trying to shoot out people running to your mirror bunker/tape line or you can try and shoot out the people who are breakshooting on the other team.
Laning is very similar to breakshooting. Your objective when laning is simply to dump paint and keep the other team from moving to a particular bunker. This is an excellent tactic for keeping the opposing players out of a key bunker such as the snake or Dorito tape lines.
Bunkering: Extremely straightforward. Get you gun up in your hands and run and gun shooting at the persons bunker you are trying to bunker. As you get to an open stretch, move inside of his bunker slightly so that he can't snap out to see you easily and as you come close take the step around the side of the bunker to shoot the player. Though you won't get pulled for it, its always nice to aim for something hard such as a podpack. No one likes having bloody welts on their backs and this tends to keep tension between teams down causing you in turn to be overshot/bonus balled less and hopefully have the same courtesy extended to you.

I don't like Phsyco Paintball for the simple reason that they don't have refs. My brother was doing a 2v2 with some regular player on his team and a guy from Organized Confusion and a kid that was still learning the ropes. My brother had been smashing heads with the guy all day. My brother ran to Center X off break. He had a few snap shots with him and Zach cyclopsed him. He then wiped the hit and ran up and bunkered my brother. My brother still shot him before he got to him and he still went and bunkered him and then my brothers other player.
EDIT: for the record guys, play with people that are going to stomp you in the ground after you learn the basics. If you do that, you'll learn much quicker and much faster. Your skills will be more hardened and you'll notice an improvement after two-three weekends. A large improvement. Getting shot is somewhat good. Behind each of those shots is an explanation of why you got shot.

Yes... I've had quite a few 'experiences' at Psycho. Most of which were bad ones. When you can go out there and literally shoot someone seven or eight times in the face and their mask comes out cleaner than before, theres a problem. I paid him back later on. Four to the back of the head and a few more in the back. That one player crawled off the field... he got a few mroe in the chest and neck off the break the next game. After that, I packed up and went home.
EDIT: I say we get a few pumpers to go from Paintball Charleston for a day and show those kiddies how to play... pump style.

HA! paintball sometimes lends itself to that kind of behavior though... adrenaline, testosterone, and loaded weapons...
but about the thread... please do NOT learn how to play speedball (or paintball) from the internet, also, when you come out to play ask for help or advice, dont think you are Ollie Lang or some other equally as arrogant pro player, tell people that you are a first timer and get techniques and strategies and moves and, have fun, LATER! if you want to see how a certain dive looks and its advantages or disadvantages or something like that THEN check youtube or pbnation for some vids of that particular aspect

Karma's a 'B man. If you think physically destroying the first couple layers of someone's skin because you THOUGHT they may have wiped a hit on you, be prepared to have it happen to you also. Like I said before, malicious overshooting draws the same penalty as wiping (not "whiping", kids), and I see people claim someone wiped on them every time I play. If every a-hole out there throws a few extra on the back of someone's head because they assume they are so damn awesome at paintball that every time they shoot at somebody and they don't get out they MUST be wiping, we'll be seeing a lot more concussions in this sport. My point is, this is such a fast paced sport that you really can't ever be sure that the opposing player is out. God help you if you ever try and make me or one of GLK boys "bleed" because you think we wiped against you, even if we did or didn't. Learn your role as a player and guest on the field, not a judgement dealer. I f-ing hate vigilantes.

That all depends on where you play. We don't allow it. If we catch someone cheating, they get booted. Simple. It may happen, from time to time, but most of our players know the penalty, therefore, don't take the risk. Cheating SHOULD NEVER be "just part" of the game. No field should allow it, but most do. That is one of the worst aspects of the sport. As more fields allow cheating, the honest players will leave the sport. I truly believe that there are far more honest players than cheaters, so we want to keep the honest players at our field, for many reasons.
...I cant even recall when i ever called out ANYONE for cheating at pc so if i cant then u do it for me....

I'm not assuming. I know when I've hit him. For starters, we are only about fifteen-twenty feet away to begin with and my brother was sitting on the sidelines during this particular game watching.
I'm not like that usually. Very very rarely actually. I'm a bit hot headed at times but i have to be pushed to that point. It doesn't just happen. Typically, when some one shoots me out, if I can find them I'll tell them nice work or generally congratulate them. I'm not trying to venerate myself and seem godly. I'm not amazing but I'm not horrible. I'm just like everyone else who plays the sport.
I don't judge others. I didn't judge him, I just told him physically to stop wiping and play fair. Apparently asking him to get out if he's shot isn't enough. I had to resort to that and once more, I'm not proud of it.
Well, assuming the GLK boys don't wipe and cheat, I wouldn't need to. Now leaving the possibility open that they do, thats your fault. As far as I know, GLK plays like their supposed to.

Yeah, just for the record, he turned around and showed me and two other guys. He made a joke of wiping it like it was a normal day thing for him.

Then bring it to me or Brain. We can't fix it if we don't know its broken. We are the only two people on the planet that are immune from getting banned. ANY ref, and I do mean ANY, will get banned from the field for wiping. It needs to be witnessed by one of us, or a reff on staff, but if they see it, and make the call, we will stand behind them. We have banned refs from the field before, for just playing on, a few times. No big deal. Their loss. Brain and I will never put up with anyone trying to abuse the rules, especially someone that knows better.
Send me a PM describing the incident, or just talk to me about it on Saturday...

No, I wasn't talking about Paintball Charleston. If I catch some cheating, I go to the head ref immediately.
