Paintball Charleston Speedball Field

Hours of Operation: Opening day, Sunday, July 6, 2008.
The Speedball Field will then run the FIRST and THIRD SUNDAY of each month from 9 am to 4 pm.

Cost: $15 includes air and CO2 (staff, memberships and free field passes will not apply, nor will previously paid admissions to recball). Speedball will be a completely separate fee from the rest of the Paintball Charleston facilities. No exceptions.

Air: Refills will be for 1 tank per person with proper air tag. No exceptions.

Private Groups: Private groups will be allowed to play on the Speedball field if pre-arranged. Since weekend speedball will be open only 2 weekend days per month, private groups will likely have 6 other weekend days to arrange for their group to play speedball. If time permits, on a regular speedball day that a private group can fit in a game on the speedball field then it will be allowed.

General Rules of Play and Conduct:

Everyone is welcome to play on our Speedball Field. Games should not exclude any players for any reason except for team fairness. Teams are encouraged to allow newer players to participate with their team. (As with recball, nobody ever said they don’t want you on their team!)

All normal field rules will be in place except that All Hits Count on the Speedball Field.

Chronograph speed is 285fps or less as per field requirements.
Rate of fire will be uncapped Semi ONLY.
(These rules are in place to allow quick transition of players from recball to speedball and back with no confusion on the rules and no safety issues)

Cheating, overshooting, and bad attitudes will not be tolerated. This is a game, not a tournament, everyone is here to have fun or they can go home.

Any rules put into place are for the greater good. They are to minimize confusion and maximize safety.

Any comments or suggestions will be considered.

STAFF: Any staff members who are needed to work on recball but choose not to with the intent to play speedball, will be denied access to the speedball fields for that day. This rule is in place to ensure that speedball does not interfere with recball. Sacrifices will have to be made, but will not be made at the expense of recball. Speedball will not take place if the recball field cannot be staffed.

I will need a few extra hands this saturday to get the bunkers filled and placed on the field. I would appreciate anyone that can come out and help.

Thank you.

both.
in speedball, getting caught wiping a hit is a 3 for 1.
at pbc, wiping will get you banned for life.

read my previous post right above this and you have the answer.

you will be banned from pbc, and if it still matters, have a 3for1 pulled for the wipe.
its not that hard to understand. (well, apparently it is).

just dont do it, then you have no problems. eh?

Let me make sure I understand this correctly. The SPF will be open the 1st Saturday and the 3rd Sunday of each month?

starting in august, that will be the case.
but since it started on a sunday this month, the next day for speedball will be july 19. next saturday.

then in august it will follow with the 1st saturday and 3rd sunday of the month.

That is right!Get ready for next Saturday.I don't want to hear any wining or complaining. Get your air and your paint and chrono and step up and shut up.I want to start at 9:30 am and rock on until the paint is gone.Practice shooting left handed or filling a hopper without looking or tucking your big ass tight into the dorito or whatever but get ready.

We need to keep in mind that, if the recball cannot be staffed for rec or private groups, then speedball cannot take place as well. Sacrifices will have to be made and they will not be made at the expense of recball.

Speedball can continue as long as it does not interfere with recball.

reffing and volunteer reffing are two different things. Recball cannot be staffed with kids volunteered reffing, they need real certified refs.

I'm doing another fishign tournament this Saturday so I'll be out of the loop for reffing AND speedball.

On the other hand volunteer refs can turn into certified refs, so him reffing may help solve future staffing problems.

no actually in this case it wont help .... geoff needs certified refs to work recball. not volunteer refs.
if they had 12 volunteer refs, and 0 certified refs, recball/speedball would not happen.

Paintbala4life
07-16-2008, 08:34 PM
I understand that it wouldn't help now, I mean if they continue to volunteer and become certified, then there would be more refs to help staff both in the future.

Geoff Call
07-16-2008, 10:15 PM
Correct. Geoff needs certified refs for the weekend. Other than solving the here and now, then yes, volunteering now and making yourself stand out in field performance is a great way to get on the certified ref train. woo woo!

I still need one field ref (I have enough head refs) to keep things running, as it stands now. I have a few dozen calls out to the staff to find out who can ref. 1 more field ref and everything will work out fine. If we can't staff rec-ball, then speedball won't happen.

I think Ryan Jones is reffing so we can play.

Thanks Ryan

why thank ryan?

it was said from the very beginning that staffing would be a problem when the speedball opened. because people wouldnt work, so they could play speedball.

here it is day#2 for speedball, and they didnt have enough refs. why?
because some of the refs said they couldnt work because they wanted to play speedball....

they work for pbc. they have a job there. if they dont want to work they when skeeter needs them, they should quit. let the owners hire people who want to work all the time and not play. bottom line.
skeeter and geoff have both reiterated NUMEROUS TIMES, if they cant find enough refs for recball, then NO SPEEDBALL.

dont thank anyone. tell them to do their job, just like the owner wants them to do.

I'm pretty sure it's because he volunteered. nuff said.

what you dont understand is this:

he asked to NOT work so he could play.

this is exactly what the owners said would happen. the refs wouldnt work so they could play speedball.
its ryan's JOB to work on saturday. so him volunteering to work isnt the case. he was told to work on a day, he didnt want to because he wanted to play.

AND THAT IS THE REASON SPEEDBALL WILL NOT SURVIVE AT PBC.

tim/geoff are just waiting for this to happen again. they dont want the headache of trying to find refs up until friday night to staff a saturday day of play.

you don't thank people for doing their job? especially when it helps you out?

you are WAY off base with your comments ... you have no idea where im coming from apparently.

ryan wanted to play speedball, knowing they were short staffed. the owners have made it known to everyone (apparently not you), that if the staffing for recball suffered, no speedball.
why should i thank him? please tell me. he did me no favors. it is his JOB at the field to show up and work the store, or ref. whatever the owner tells him to do.
should i thank everyone i see at the field because i got to play? not gonna happen. i pay just like everyone else. and the owners take that money and pay the referees.

so please think before you post stupid shit like that.

the owners are hoping/waiting for speedball to not work. it is a hassle for them to keep refs on recball, when some want to play speedball.
the next time this happens, dont be surprised when there is no speedball.

my point was simple, if you work at the field, and the owner tells you to work on this day, you go to work on that day. you dont say you cant work, then show up at the field to play.

I am glad you see it this way. I am always the "bad" guy because I make this EXACT statement. This is a business.

the owners are hoping/waiting for speedball to not work. it is a hassle for them to keep refs on recball, when some want to play speedball.
the next time this happens, dont be surprised when there is no speedball.
This is incorrect. I did not bust MY balls out there to NOT see it happen. I will not take insult at this comment because I know "where" you are coming from. I do want to see it happen. I have plans for improvements and depending on the interest level in speedball (it has been good so far) will determine the priority of things I do out there.

my point was simple, if you work at the field, and the owner tells you to work on this day, you go to work on that day. you dont say you cant work, then show up at the field to play.
True.
On a side note.
This business is deeper than most people understand. There are other factors at play that affect the staffing. It isn't black and white. There is room for improvement.

jojo750
07-19-2008, 06:01 PM
brain, thanks for reffing today.
didnt mean to sound way off with my comments, but if someone besides you, skeeter or geoff would say it, maybe these kids would understand.
guess not.

i know you want the speedball to happen just at least as a showing of all the work that you did. i want it to work, and have been trying to help geoff with little stuff i can.

with that said, i didnt mean to come across as ungrateful to anyone.

(edit: to paintballa4life, not trying to argue with you at all, just want people to see a different view, that mainly the owners see).

Speedball Update:

speedball will not continue on saturdays. starting August 3, it will be held on the 1st and 3rd SUNDAY of each month. easier for geoff and the owners to get staffing for recball.

this message was from geoff. talked to him tonight about 6:30. he will update the info in the original post tonight or tomorrow.

no speedball on saturday, only sundays.
thanks

ok. from what i gathered last month when i asked geoff this question, speedball is the 1st/3rd sundays. not every other weekend. so this month has 5 weekends in it. so technically, the next day for speedball is the first sunday in september. which is sept.7.

harry spoke to geoff yesterday and he was told no speedball this weekend. so i posted it up. now, if geoff or skeeter would post any changes, that would be great. but i think since skeeter said they had MORE PROBLEMS with staffing the last speedball, it will be another week before it will happen again.

ahhhh.
sunday crowd is usually smaller than saturday's.

last weekend there might have been around 50 people tops playing recball. but dont hold me to that.
i was out on the speedball side, and there was plenty of parking spaces available. really wasnt a big crowd. but if it is cooler tomorrow, could be a decent day.
