speedball for n00bs @ pbc

just wondering how one might go about getting into speedball. never played sb and would like to give it a try. ive seen teams playing down there a few times... but i dont know any of them, and feel like a complete dumbass just horning in on thier practice. i have a decent gun (nothing special) and would love to give it a try, but i have no idea where to start. i play pretty much every weekend (when im not working), just thought i'd post here for some direction.

It's no big deal at all. Just have a good attitude and say, "Hey guys, I want to try playing some speedball." The teams that are out there playing each other are pretty aggressive but don't let that stop you. We can tone it down if you let us know, that way you get a taste of it without getting abused.

It may be easier if you get one or two friends who want to try it out and play a few games with them. I know the guys on GS are willing to help you out and give you pointers if you just ask us. We want all the speedballers we can get at the field!

QFT. Just dont be afraid to speak up out there. Just find whoever is reffing speedball that day and ask if you can jump in a game. It's great to get new people out there balling it up.

I would kindof like to play on the speedball field also. The constant scenerio play at pbc kindof gets old to me. When i was at pbc i didn't see anyone playing on the speedball field though.

Speedballers are all very nice people and will help you anytime you want to play. Remember that all of us started playing at some point and had to ask the better guys to play. Paco has always been good. But ask and have some fun.

awesome! , i too am getting a bit tired of the regular field play out there... don't get me wrong ,its fun and all but im looking for faster, tactical play. as for bringing friends, ive ben trying for some time now to get a few guys out there with me, they just don't have the time / money to invest.

not sure if any of u vets are gonna try to squeeze a few games in during the spring break hours, i will probably be up there today or wednesday for a few hours.

i may have to wait a few more days to jump in though, i have some fresh ink on my left leg (right down my shin) and don't wanna damage it while its healing. however i played yesterday and i was fine... so we'll see.

So, to all the guys who are interested in speedball here's something to think about.
For those who don't know, PBC has a few tournament(speedball and X ball) teams. Would you be likely to come out if we were able to have a few of these experienced players host some kind of clinic/camp this summer? We could put together a good intro into speedball and teach you the basics in a few days. Or, for the guys who have played a few times and are looking to improve. This way, when you show up at the field to play speedball you'll have a group of guys to play with and you'll have the skills to walk on the field with confidence. At the very least you'll know a bunch of the guys out there. And a lot of the skills like snap-shooting will carry over into the scenario games.
If there's enough intrest it may be possible. What do you guys think?

i believe this would be a great idea. I have tried to talk to people that play recball to come play some speedball, but they hesitant to try it and i understand why. So an intro to speedball clinic would be great. This gives those that have never played speedball to play against people that are in the same boat. They get to learn about speedball, how its played, different techniques and drills, and show what they learned. or something like that. anyway, i believe you guys will get a pretty good turn out if you promote it and organizie (sp?) it well enough. Well since PBC is great at both of these, it will most likely happen. I'll be back in Charleston in May so expect to see me there. Peace out
