what kind of tank would you need for an ion? low pressure or high pressure?

You could use either. The operating pressure of the ION is about 160. The output of the LP tank (at least mine) is about 450. HP is better since the recharge would be better, but I never had any problems

no difference, it's just each one has a different range of output pressures. and no, hp does not have better recharge, it's the kind of tank that does it, not the pressure. i use low pressure on mine.

thanks for the info

What I meant was that with a HP tank with 800-900 output, the HP tank can "keep up" better than the LP tank.

I see what you mean, but not really. Let's just that say a certain LP tank has a range from 50-250 psi, and a respective HP tank has a range from 250-550 psi. The LP tank will output anywhere in its range, and the HP will output anywhere in its range. So, since the ion has an operating pressure of 180, it seems that the range of a LP tank would fit it better, rather than a higher pressure tank that is not operating its best because it is not outputting as much pressure as it can and should. And also, on the recharge rate, the insides of both the tanks are filled to the same pressure of 4,500 Pounds per Square Inch. It's the regulator, or tip of the bottle that has a certain spring that sets the "output pressure", not the "internal pressure". On an ion, it doesn't really matter, it is in the middle range of both the tanks and will therefore perform equally with both. It is just that with other guns, that tank may or may not work according to their higher or lower pressures.

all pretty useful info except for the fact that if you have a HPR or any kind of regulator it doesnt matter what kind of tank you have...if youhave a stock ion reg its gonna put air to the gun at the same pressure weither u have a HP or LP tank so its really what ever tank ur comfortable w/ buyin or which ever u can get cheaper...thats what i would go for is cheapness...i love gettin stuff on the cheapness

technically speaking, HP tanks have higher recharge rate WHEN used in low pressure guns. but if they are used on equivalent markers, that suit their operating pressure then it is the same. Having an LP tank has one advantage over HP, it tends to make the marker more consistent because the REGULATOR/HPR has less pressure from the tank. Think of it like this, if you use an HP tank on a LP gun. Its like providing someone/something items, if the someone/something only uses 4 balls each time, but you have 8. Isn't it easier to get 4 each time then get 8 all the time? You may not understand what i said cuz i suck at analogies. but lets just say, the marker will take more air than it can recharge at one point, but in HP the tank still has extra pressure before it recharges. takes 4, still have 4 more to take before it can recharge it back to 8. so technically you have the same recharge but more air to get.

I think we are all running around in circles...lets just hit the tree and get over with it.

yeah so ions will use pretty much any tank you can throw at it...

Kinda... Didn't add much there, Casey.

An Ion will take almost any standard HPA tank on the market. The LP tanks will be more compatible with the SP in-line reg. We have seen a few of the SP Ion regs blow when used with a HP output HPA tank.
