I have been thinking about ways to get speedball going again and I think I might have come to a conclusion. Is there anyway that PBC would be willing to take deposits of money from players in advance to play speedball on a set date?
This way, even if players don't show, PBC still makes a profit and does not have to worry about people who are all talk and "no show". I am suggesting that PBC runs some sort of private speedball party with a scenario-type paying format. One would simply pay ahead of time to the store for the speedball date set by PBC and then everyone would come out and play on that set day.
In a sense, it is like PBC holding money untill at least 20 people pay and then a private party is formed. All players willing to play, chip in their cash untill we have the ?$340? needed.
The reason I suggest that the actual store holds the money is so nobody feels like they are giving their money to a random stranger who is claiming to make a private speedball group. Would this work and does anyone have a different idea or comments?

-Thanks

Geoff & I have a proposition for EVERYONE who wants to play speedball. We will post a “speedball day”. We will announce it a few weeks in advance. WE will coordinate the registration process. All WE require is that everyone who wants to play, must register (and pay $17, which includes air) the week before. If we don’t have 20 players (pre registered), then everyone who pre-registered will get a full refund. We WILL NOT allow walk-on’s.

You are still welcome to schedule any speedball events that you want, but we can take that on that burden as well.

skeeter mentioned the exact same idea...do you not read the forums before you post?

No worries, and I like that we are on the same page... Be nice, Casey, he just missed one post out of about 95...

Like I have said, many times before... I would LOVE to see a thriving speedball community at our field. What always seems to happen is lack of attendance, over time...

What we (me, Brain, Geoff) will do: Pick a date, start a sign-up sheet & take deposits ($17 per person, including air). Once we have 20 people signed up, then we will hold speedball on the scheduled day. If a player does not show up on the correct day, then it's their loss. We NEED to have all deposits in, 7 days in advance, so we can schedule appropriately. Absolutely NO "Walk-On's"

What we are trying to prevent is having a few dozen threads about the awesome speedball event that is about to happen, and then only 3 players show up... Simple: Register at least 1 week in advance, and if we have "critical mass", then we play. If we don't have 20 players by that deadline, then EVERYONE gets a full refund. If this works well, then we will obviously offer it more frequently. Eventually, we will find the "frequency" that works best. We found out last summer and last fall, that 2 days a month was way to much.

This is simple. Pre-register, then play. If we don't have the attendance, then we won't be sitting on the field, hoping some "walk-on's" may show up and play.
