View Full Version : march 6th lets get it started

ok lets get this date set and put the word out that we want to set march 6th as a private date for speedball. I know the following guys are down...who else wants to join?
myself
Kwasi (plus 5)
Mr GQ
Xclio
Pbfreak4 (i think so)
pballer4life(i think so)
if im wrong about the guys above and dont want to join the private group post here. im just trying to see what we got going on for march 6th
im not to sure what to do from here? do we get somthing set with the field, like tell skeeter?
Nicholas

Yes talk to skeeter but you need to get money from everyone. Find out how much it is going to cost and then make everyone pre pay otherwise people won't show up.
Goofy-fourwheeler-kid
01-30-2010, 07:02 PM
at the rate these things usually go, there is no point in telling skeeter b/c it wont happend

You might be right but he should talk to him to see how much per person he needs to charge. Then if he can actually get the money and people he should tell skeeter
kinch09
01-30-2010, 07:10 PM
alright i guess the best way to ask him is PM him. but still lets see who is willing to come and play
jojo750
01-30-2010, 07:12 PM
how skeeter wanted it done before was simple.
you pick a date.
have the people go by the store and pay the money for that date.
if the date rolls around, and everyone shows up, you get to play.
if enough people dont prepay, money gets refunded.
its a tedious task. i suggest PMing skeeter to see what he says. since, ultimately, he is the one you would have to contact to do this.
i would do it this weekend to at least get him to note it on his calendar.
good luck.
kinch09
01-30-2010, 07:19 PM
thanks. yeah i justed PMd him.
so are any of you guys intrested in playing on the 6th?
pballer4life
01-31-2010, 03:06 PM
I'm interested in playing and if you start the pool at the store I'll come by and pay.
no work no problem
01-31-2010, 04:26 PM
if i get another gun by then im down post the price per person when u figure it out.
kinch09
01-31-2010, 05:30 PM
ok cool. i PMd skeeter and hopeing to here from him soon. im pretty sure we need 15 players at the least. and thats 17 a person and that includes all day air if im not mistaken.
as soon as i here from him ill get a pool started at the store.
no work no problem-if you do not have a gun by then i got a friend trying to sell one (pink sft shocker) and im sure he wouldnt mind you using it for the day.
Seriously guys. It's a damn sticky. Second post in the topic. Right above this one.
Here's the link even
http://www.paintballcharleston.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1230
Why bother Skeeter? If we could do anything without someone holding our hand we might actually be playing speedball rather than talking about it online.
This will fall apart when people are expected to go to the store and register/pay. Funny, 400 people can do it for a scenario but a handful can't manage it for a private group.
jojo750
01-31-2010, 09:53 PM
paco.
skeeter had said something before in a thread about having people prepay for a speedball private party. then he would just issue a refund if 15 people didnt prepay.
that might have been a 1time deal, and that time may have passed. but i thought he was going to do that to get the money upfront.
maybe not.
bloodyswimmingpool
01-31-2010, 11:23 PM
I'd definitely be down with pre-payment and if it falls thru, i get my money back. Seems simple, fair, and easy enough. This is the first time i have ever heard of this type deal. If this plan sees light again, let us know.
Skeeter
02-01-2010, 06:01 AM
We just need pre-payment the day before a private speedball event. Simple. I would prefer to not task Geoff or Casey with the sign-up sheets & payments, but if this is the only way to get it done, then we will do it at the store.
The usual result is a lot of chatter on the forums, but no players when it's time to play (more specifically, pay).
Lets get a good sized group of players & make it happen this time... It's frustrating to see the lack of interest, in real life...
ALL it takes is a little preparation on the part of the players!!! If this is "for real", then get to the store and pre-pay for your speedball event. I'll take care of the PBC/Field part on my end.
Mr. GQ
02-01-2010, 06:45 AM
Skeeter, as we talked before, I've got some guys to do field work for you.

paco- my main question was if 15 players was the minimum we need to have to get a private group or as long as we cover 255 bucks we can play?????i see where it says 255 covers 15 players but it doesnt say thats the minimum we need to have. but skeeter has cleared it up for me. we just need 255
ok well skeeter is down(like always) so now im waiting to here from him the best way to get it set up. eitehr we all go to the shop and pay or myself or someone else collects the money and pays in full. doesnt matter to me i just want to play.
Skeeter
02-01-2010, 08:44 AM
I'll let Geoff & Casey know about the date & we can start planning on our end. Geoff can make up a "sign up / payment" sheet, that we can keep at the store. If someone would like to take on that task (outside of the store), I would appreciate it greatly.
$255 is the rate, for 2 people or 15 people... The rate covers "up to" 15 players. Add more players to the event for $17 each, if you can find a few more.
Lets try to get payment in early (remember, 100% refund if the group cannot come up with $255) and I will talk to Brain about buying a few bunkers for the field... The bunkers are usually $300-$700, depending on what shape and size... If we get players, then we may try to open more often.
Unfortuantely... Speedball is not our "field of dreams"... We built it, but they didn't come...

What would be an acceptable title? Private Speedball event or Speedball event? Also, is the following info correct: "$17 per person, this includes use of the Speedball field and all event air. Also, includes rentals for anyone who needs it."
jojo750
02-01-2010, 09:35 PM
i believe its $255 for up to 15 people.
then anything over 15, it is $17 per person.
kinch09
02-02-2010, 07:09 AM
yeah i would put private speedball event for march 6th.
and yes its 255 for 15 players which comes out to be 17 bucks for each player. and thats use of the field and air. also anyone after 15 players will have to pay the same which is 17 bucks a player.
and if it comes down to it im ok with putting extra money in. i mean whats another 5 bucks to play on aspeedball field. seems like its been forever since anyone has played on the field. its been years for myself.

02-02-2010, 09:38 AM

This just occured to me, but March 6th is a Saturday. Speedball i thought was only to be scheduled for Sundays? Can someone clarify this ASAP so that we can change the date if needed?
jojo750
02-12-2010, 07:36 PM
if skeeter has enough notice, speedball can be played on saturday. given over 5weeks notice, i think skeeter is trying to allow this to happen.
since its a private party, as long as they arent super busy that day, it shouldnt be a problem.

10 days left...we need 5 more people anybody else sign up yet?
Skeeter
02-24-2010, 12:59 PM
We have 9 people on the list... Brain (and I support him 100%) is NOT going to set up the field if we don't have enough people signed up by this Saturday night.
New deadline for "Go" or "No Go" is the close of business on 2/27...
Geoff and I have gotten a several calls EACH, with questions about how many people are on the list. Nobody wants to sign up until there are "enough" players to make it happen. Unfortunately, everybody seems to want to take this approach, so nobody registers. It's a 100% REFUND if you have registered and the event DOES NOT happen... Sign up by the close of business on Saturday, or you will NOT be playing speedball on 3/6!!!
Sorry about the change of rules, but Brain needs at least 1 full day (Sunday, the 1st) to prep the field for the following weekend. This requires mowing, bunker repair, bunker replacement, netting repair, etc. It's not reasonable to expect him to do this next Friday night at 7:00 pm, so people can play the next day. Get with the program, and sign up if you intend to play! We have 9 decent people that are not playing games with registrations, so far. 6 more people is all that it would take.
If you want to play, then sign up. SIMPLE!!! If you are waiting for everyone else to sign up before you do, then I hope you miss out on the day of speedball. If you ARE NOT paid up by this Saturday night, then you WILL NOT be playing on the 6th. NO WALK ONS will be allowed on the field, under ANY circumstances, PERIOD!!!! Register by 5 PM on the 27th, or STFU about speedball.
We have 9 people signed up so far... There is NO RISK by registering. If the event does not happen (by lack of participation), then you get a full refund. Simple. Stop calling us to ask how many people have signed up, and just sign up!!!! Simple!!! I can put 300 rec ballers on the field without ANY worries, but we can't get 15 speedballers to commit to attending an event????
Xclio
02-24-2010, 02:48 PM
Perfectly said Skeeter! This has been ridiculously advertised and I find it pretty pathetic that we can only get 9 people to sign up! I hope it happens as I have signed up already but if not then...I guess I will donate my $17 into store credit...
I heard mention on Junkie today that the field is going to get torn down...my guess is that it is just a dramatic rumor but even if it wasn't I would actually agree with the idea considering how difficult it is to even get something that was announced over a month prior going! I have helped run fields in the past and I really understand the amount of prep work that goes into the fields.

Man, that was just IMHO, that i put up. I seriously didnt mean for it to be a rumor, but it is a business and if that section isnt making money whats the point of keeping it going and wasting money on maintanence. I would be sad to see it go, but thats the nature of the biz and a burden off their back, plain and simple

Brain and I have been "chatting" about setting up an RC Car track (or 2). The speedball area would be perfect for that sort of facility. We would rent it out to different stores & clubs on a "per day" basis. This way, that property would get used in some way. The clubs would just register with us, when they want to hold a race, or event. We wouldn't be involved with the individual scheduling or the logistics, and they would manage the event.
It's a win/win for almost everybody. We are in the first stages of planning this and we are still open to other ideas. The speedball field is a complete waste of space, since it never (almost) gets used. It would also be a fun "side line" activity prior to scenarios, or just fun to mess around with. We don't even know what sort of track(s) we might create, but a dirt track AND a road course, would both be lots of fun!!!

hey skeeter - there is an RC track or two on In North East Columbia at I-20 at near the spears creek church exit (near clothing world) - one exit east of the Clemson Rd exit. You can see it from the interstate. Might be worth a peak if you are in the hood for getting ideas and such...

Oh I know...but if I make it "in store credit" in my head then I can justify more paintball goodness :)
As hard and painful as it is to setup speedball with the lack of support in the area I think it might honestly be better to do something like what your thinking. I can imagine some really fun pre-scenario grudge matches going on during the day and evening on Friday!
David5751
02-25-2010, 11:37 AM
^ Yeah I agree with Xclio
we have a RC track (actually 3) up here near Greenville pickens speedway...ill take some pics and forward em to you
Skeeter
02-25-2010, 04:29 PM
The RC track idea would be a fun "distraction" from our normal operation. Just a way to keep that part of the property occupied, and would be fun to set up and play around with.
I have been to a few tracks in Florida, and it's neat crowd. It would be an alternative activity for people who are too young to play paintball, for now. Who knows... We might even be able to open it up for "private Parties" if people have their own cars.
I do have a feeling that the March 6th event will happen. It sounds like we have 12-13 players so far, but if it takes this much time to organize a single event, with seriously poor attendance, then why not do something better with that property? If we could get 20+ players every other Sunday (we have tried, and it never happens), then we could justify keeping it "up". Until that day happens, we will just have to find a better way to utilize that area.
We can get the lights running, for night-time races. We already have power out there, and we could build some bleachers for drivers & spectators. We could also set up a pit area for working on cars & charging batteries. We may even have an old shop style air compressor that we can put out there, for people to use.
Another thing to consider is that we would get people out to the property. These are folks with free time and $$ to have the RC hobby!!! We could "convert" a few of them over to paintballers... It's almost like an advertising opportunity!
Oh I know...but if I make it "in store credit" in my head then I can justify more paintball goodness :)
GREAT plan, but my idea of "beer" should be given consideration as well!!!!

Just a quick suggestion. One thing that would be pretty cool is maybe sell some rc cars, parts, nitro gas, batteries, chargers etc. I would maybe buy a car to do this. I have always been wanting to but I dont know of any local tracks.

02-27-2010, 09:12 PM
is it possible to do a 10 on 10 on the field?
Nicholas
02-27-2010, 09:18 PM
I don't think the field is big enough for that. Better off with some 5 on 5 teams and just switching up the teams as we go.
jojo750
02-27-2010, 09:33 PM
you can do 10v10, there just will be alot of people at each bunker.
we did 7v7 and it was tight.
David5751
02-27-2010, 10:20 PM
if you do 5 on 5 with some folks gearing up while the games on...next game starts faster and on a whole creates less down time...just my 2cent
mini ben
02-27-2010, 10:40 PM
5v5 for real. 7v7 takes too long to turn points.
kinch09
02-27-2010, 11:51 PM
david-very true sounds like that would be the best thing to do.
Xclio
02-28-2010, 06:16 PM
The field simply isn't big enough for a 7v7...5v5 also as stated earlier will help with turn around on games.

i believe you can still sign up, as long as its not the same day as the event (No Walk-ons allowed, not on the paid list, you don't play). I know the balance for the event had to be paid in full by 5 pm on Saturday, Feb 27. That was the main thing. But if i have this wrong, please someone correct me.

This is a serious PITA! I didn't want late registrations, but lets get more people playing. I WILL NOT ALLOW WALK ONS, but if you can register and pay by Friday night, then I'll give it an OK.
This is very typical. Why is it that I can get 300 rec-ballers to show up without a problem, but it's almost impossible to get 20 speedballers to register. Hell, we get 400+ scenario players to pre-register at $40 or $50 for an event, but still struggle to get $15 speedballers to pre-register a week ahead of time! I am glad our speedball field is going to get some use, finally, but it shouldn't be this difficult to get a group together.
Register & pay by Friday, and you can play!
Also... Just a word of warning... Standard rules apply for wiping! I have a $20 bonus to the speedball ref for EVERY player he catches wiping and kicks out for life. There is not reason to cheat, the game is all about fun, and ANY single person is elligable for this penalty! Take your chances if you want, but if you get caught wiping, then say goodbye to PBC forever... Same rule as rec ball! I may have a few "spy" refs out there as well, so don't take any chances.
